Urban Ground is an investigation of the city from the walker’s perspective, attending specifically to the ground plane, the only surface of the urban landscape we habitually touch. The skin of the city is a patchwork surface whose composition registers an ever constant flow of inhabitants. Beneath our feet, the secret history of a place is revealed, in layered material and eroding surfaces. And yet, we rarely look down. This study represents an effort to document the multifarious nature of urban ground, to rediscover its complex character, joining body and mind through looking and walking.
