Mountain Cedar, 2023 - ongoing

Ashe Juniper is legendary across central Texas. A pioneer species that colonizes the land in absence of fire, Ashe Juniper is despised by many who claim it to be an “invasive species,” one that displaces the “native” vegetation by robbing other plants of water and sun. This project delves into the ecology and politics of Ashe Juniper to share a nuanced understanding the species’ biological agency and entanglements with people occupying the landscape of central Texas.
